Are you 50-100 pounds over-weight despite having tried every diet and exercise regimen? Have you been told that your only option is to undergo invasive bariatric surgery? We know what you’re going through. We know why you’ve arrived at this website: you’re trying to find a less invasive, non-surgical treatment option for your problem.
Being overweight is not just a cosmetic issue or being unable to dress stylishly. Excess weight also destroys confidence, self-esteem, and can result in diabetes, higher rates of cancer, heart disease and stroke, and shortens your expected lifespan. In fact, the latest medical research supports that even modest weight loss can significantly reduce your risk of breast cancer.
Left gastric embolization works by reducing your blood levels of ghrelin, the “hunger hormone,” largely produced by the upper portion of the stomach. With lower blood ghrelin levels, your appetite decreases so you eat less but feel satisfied.

Left Gastric Artery Embolization for Weight Loss
Excess body weight is not just a cosmetic concern. It leads to significant loss of self-esteem and confidence. Excess body weight is also associated with higher rates of diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cancer and early death. 90% of the body’s ghrelin (the “hunger hormone”) is produced in the gastric fundus which in turn receives most of its blood supply from the left gastric artery. Numerous studies have demonstrated a significant drop in blood levels of ghrelin with a subsequent reduction of the body mass index by at least 15% with left gastric artery embolization. Bariatric embolization would be particularly useful for individuals requiring weight-loss surgery but who are also taking an oral anticoagulant for atrial fibrillation. Also, some bariatric surgical candidates may benefit by first undergoing left gastric artery embolization to provide an initial phase of weight loss to improve the results of the more invasive open surgery.
